The Department of Biology at Sun Yat-sen University has a long history. It was established in 1924 when the university was founded. It was one of the five major biology departments in Chinese universities at that time. Sun Yat-sen University invested 692.36 million yuan to build the "Life Science Building Group on the South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University Guangzhou Campus". The total construction area of the project is 100784.7 square meters. It is mainly composed of 4 buildings. The teaching and research buildings include: Shida Building, Animal Breeding Room, Monkey Room, Parasite Building, Aquatic Economic Animal Research Institute, Entomology Research Institute and School of Pharmacy.
The laboratory animal room facility environment is divided into general environment, barrier environment and isolation environment. This project is a "barrier environment animal laboratory", that is, sterile, known bacteria and animals without special pathogens need to be sterile or as far as possible. Raised and bred in a sterile environment. The project includes 17 air-conditioning unit automatic control systems, 400 square meters of clean room doors, 200 square meters of clean windows, and 145 sets of stainless steel clean equipment.
